  • Something Fishy

  • You can’t really have a fish supper at Something Fishy, because last orders is 5.30pm – earlier if all the fish has been eaten. Most people pile into the bright blue canteen, with its workaday plastic seating and wipe-clean tables, at dinner time (traditional dinner: about 12.30pm). That’s when the fish is at its freshest and there’s a high chip turnover to ensure just-fried crispness. Before this, punters tend to choose the all-day breakfast over cod or haddock in batter. Whenever you eat, make sure you’re hungry. The portions of fish are so large their battered ends spill over the plate. The flesh is firm and flaky, and the golden crisp, bubbled coating pleasantly light. Modest-sized versions of the meal of the day are available for smaller appetites. Those wanting to indulge in afters can choose knickerbocker glory or spotted dick and custard. We can’t imagine coming here for anything other than fish and chips, but there are saveloys, rather pasty fish cakes and pies, as well as the option of steamed fish, mash and liquor for those trying to avoid fat.

For a very humble chippy it's my fav fish and chips in London and I've tried quite a few of the supposed 'top 10' in London and they still fall short in comparison. Go large!!!
