Aptly named, this place offers a host of brilliant ideas for local parents. Stuck for childcare? Use the drop-in. Can’t bear to supervise a painting session? Pick up the programme and sign your kids up for a workshop. The café works on the principle of providing nutritious, healthy and appealing food, all prepared with maternal devotion, to suit all ages. A list of daily specials (£6.50 for adults, £3 for kids) includes comforting favourites such as fish pie, shepherd’s pie and lamb curry alongside a wide range of vegetables and salads. Breakfast options are extensive, as is the list of smoothies, while the enthusiastic kitchen really excels in the cake department. Trays of warm muffins, sticky carrot cake, almond slices and various chocolaty offerings are on show, devised for a predominately female (and largely breastfeeding) clientele, but equally tempting for anyone – though child-free visitors may feel slightly out of place. Children can play in a toy zone at the back of the space or in the pretty garden.
