This little Upper Street Japanese restaurant didn’t look far to choose its name – ‘tenshi’ translates to ‘angel’. It impresses with a wide selection of Japanese dishes: sushi, sashimi and tempura, yaki-soba (fried noodles), katsu curry and udon noodle soups. There’s even a selection of okonomiyaki, those hearty Japanese ‘cabbage pancakes’ which come with various toppings and lashings of mayonnaise and Worcestershire-style okonomiyaki sauce. Finish off the meal with some black sesame ice-cream or various aduki bean desserts.

I really enjoyed this place. Lovely little restaurant we decided to try as we had no inclination to go anywhere in particular and just liked the look of the place. I had the pumpkin croquettes while my companion had the takoyaki.

My croquettes were delicious, albeit a bit sweet (thats pumpkin for you), with a delicious coating of panko bread crumbs. They were decently size and I got two each. The takoyaki balls won in the in appetiser category, they had a lovely texture and taste. I was even allowed one :)

I had sushi for my main, and cannot fault the fish at all. It was all beautifully presented. I had 6 maki (3 salmon, 3 avocado), 6 nigiri, and two other little nibbles that was pretty much rice wrapped in seaweed. My friend must have loved the okonomiyaki (not Hiroshima style, more Osaka) because this time I got none!

Tenshi is an unassuming little place near work that finally tempted me in. It offers a broad range of bento boxes for lunch that offer a great quantity of food for about £8. I plumped for the chicken teriyaki, served with sticky rice, miso soup, a gyoza, edamame and some veg. A brilliant selection! It was tasty tasty tasty and certainly filling. The chicken skin was absolutely delicious and in all it sent me back to work happy.

My friend and I were craving sushi so decided to try Tenshi.

I tried to book but they don't take bookings at Weekends. We turned up at 9 and we're seated with no problem.
If you want instant sushi it's not the place as there is normally a 30-40 minute wait on busy nights.
However it's worth the wait. We had delicious chicken gyoza before and then really enjoyed the spicy tuna roll and California roll. I thought the price was pretty standard for sushi and the drinks were reasonable.
Really nice place to eat in Angel.

Nice local japanese restaurant, and not too expensive! Lovely authentic interior decoration too. Recommended.

great food, fresh and perfectly made. Nice atmosphere, relaxed and friendly. Very good service too. we'll be back soon, Thanks!

Been here a good few times this year: recommended, we've always really enjoyed the food & contrary to the other comment service was good & with a smile. Menu has a bunch of stuff you don't see elsewhere, it's more than just sushi & more than just noodles and is pretty cheap considering the area!

Pretty disappointing, both in quality of food and service (although i believe they were doing their best with a very full restaurant!)

Great food, fresh and good choice available. Service can be slow.
