  • Having moved back to Clapham after a 3 year hiatus, I returned to what is now The Kings Head to see how it had changed. It has fast become my new local. The pub has lost some of it's appeal, having no kitchen and only a small outdoor area. They offer cold bar snacks in the form of scotch eggs and flavoured pork pies but the staff insist there will be a new kitchen opening in time. I gave in to eat an, admittedly dubious looking, scotch egg and was pleasantly surprised. I've gone back for more on a few occasions. My husband is a lover of the pork and stilton pies. The pub looks nothing like the picture anymore and I barely recognised it on my first return, its very dark and a lot smaller. It is, however, very cosy and is often littered with tea lights making it feel very romantic. Mostly though, the service has improved 10 fold since my last visit. The staff are attentive and charming and seem to have a great knowledge of the products they sell. My husband is a very particular ale man and is very taken with the place, i often lose him at the bar while he chats to the staff about the ins and outs of the ales. On a sour note the pub seems to often struggle with low stocks and bad taps. It is unfortunate as they have such a wonderful selection and I find they are the only stockists of some of my new favourite drinks. It's a little annoying continually being told a 'tap is dodgy' or 'they've run out'. That said, the staff have been wonderful in helping me to find a different drink to enjoy. All in all it is a real gem of a pub. It has some improvements to go (I'll be happy when I can have my roast there) and needs a polish round the edges but it has a great atmosphere, good music, the friendliest staff and a brilliant selection of drinks. It is most definitely one of Claphams best kept secrets.

  • I really like the kings head, they always have a really impressive ale selection, redemption...elb...hackey beers to name a few. I was informed by the friendly helpful bar staff that the kitchen is being built. There was a great atmosphere last Saturday, I think this pub is a hidden gem in Clapham yet to be discovered, great staff and great ale.

  • Used to have great food, great staff and great atmosphere as the Grey Goose. Now it is an avarage pub with avarage cold snack food.

  • Fantastic little pub with a friendly atmosphere. There was an excellent selection of real ale including Dark Star and Purity. Highly recommended!

  • Went to the King's Head for the first time and it was a great place to relax and have a couple of pints. Friendly staff and good atmosphere, I didn't try the food so I can't comment there. I would definitely recommend it for a good place to start a night out.

  • This pub used to be called the Grey Goose, and it was the best spot in Clapham for long Sunday lunches. The roasts were awesome, the rest of the meals on offer were fine too, and all at a very affordable price. Now it's been taken over by a chain and – surprise, surprise – no more proper food, just "cheese and meat platters". Very disappointing. Won't go back again.
