From the people behind the Italian restaurant Bocca di Lupo just across the road, this gelateria and delicatessen is a joyous celebration of authentic Sicilian ices. Gelato, sorbet and granita are all made with a chef's sensibility of ingredient quality, seasonality and flavour, and the results are spectacular.

Around 20 flavours are offered each day and, apart from a few classics such as pistachio ice-cream and strawberry sorbet, recipes tend to be sophisticated. Take the summer pudding gelato - not merely a mix of berries, but one that is marbled with vodka- and mulberry-soaked sponge. Among our favourites at Gelupo are the sheep's milk ricotta and black pepper ice-cream marbled with chocolate sauce, and refreshing, jewel-coloured mint granita.

Can't decide? Order three in a tub or large cone, or scooped into a sugar-crusted brioche-cum-doughnut, which adds a delicious layer of wickedness to the experience. Sit at one of the bar stools in the front or at the park bench in the rear deli section; with its pale blue painted boards and blue and white tiling, you can almost believe you're in Sicily.

Gelupo serves the best gelato I've had in London - and better gelato than many places in Italy, too! Wow. Tasting is possible, and the staff were friendly and lively.

Oh my god. The best gelato in town. Hands down. I was served by the chef (i think) which was a nice touch and had raspberry, chocolate and coconut. The coconut was amazing. I've been all over Italy, I've been to NY, and to Freggo, Scoop, Gelatorino, Amorino, and all the rest. This is the best. Creamy, vibrant flavours. V. nice people too.

We snuck into this little ice-cream place during the interval of Thriller - amazing. Super-smooth pistachio and the best chocolate sorbet EVER! The girl behind the counter was really sweet, forcing little tastes of everything on us, then making hubby the "most interesting" espresso he's had in London. Packed, with a haphazard queueing system, but awesome!

The ice cream is good, but quite on the low-fat side, and I can taste the (all natural, according to the website) additives meant to keep it together without the fatty stuff. So, less guilt, but also less satisfaction. Since gelato is a rare treat for me anyway, I rather go for the cream-rich, calorie-laden decadent variety, as made by GelatoMio, Oddono or Freggo.

What happened to Gelupo recently?!
Went there Thursday night, bringing some friends there. The guy serving us was SO rude, unbelievable... He introduced himself as the 'owner' of the place. I was so embarassed with his attitude, we left after 2 samples. Gelupo: NO GRAZIE!
PS: I'm also returning my loyalty cards LOL

Angela - if you are a fan of pistachio, you should also try Cocorino's in Marylebone. Different, but also excellent.

I'm a huge fan of Sicilian casata and find it almost impossible to find a good one in the UK. However, upon visiting gelupo last Friday I found they had it on sale so couldn't refuse trying a pot. I have to say that it's almost as good as, if not on a par with the best casata that you can find in the Sicilian gelateria's. Highly recommended, and just £2 for the small pot you can't say no.

Just amazing! I agree with previous commentators that it is probably the best ice cream in London. I especially liked the hazelnut/fennel ice-cream. They give you a loyalty card and I can already see the stamps on my card adding up quickly. Whenever ice-cream, this will be my place. They also make great coffee, including the delicous espresso with egg yolk. Went there with my girlfriend after the worst Japanese dinner in my life at Chisou and we were pretty down. This place made us smile again!

Although I had to queue last night it was worth the wait - especially as the watermelon granita was delicious - my friend had a mix of the coffee and honey and runny boozy chocolate one which was to die for. Thankfully they do loyalty cards, so we'll be going back

Without a doubt the best ice cream in London - and their pistachio is out of this world. Staff are freindly and knowledgeable - I was served by the guy who was also the project manager, who advised me on what goes into the gelati, and the best combos. A serious addition to the Soho ice cream scene and without doubt, the best.

SO darn good. Seriously, £3 for a cup which is stuffed full of goodness. Try the peach sorbet
