Feng Shui Inn

With its glass-topped tables, cosy burgundy interior and ceiling festooned with Chinese ornaments, Feng Shui Inn makes a fine place in which to relax and enjoy a leisurely meal - particularly during quiet midweek lunchtimes. No dim sum is served, and you won't find the accompanying paper tablecloths and bustle of neighbouring eateries either. The regular menu offers the usual Cantonese choices with a few Sichuan and Beijing favourites, executed with varying degrees of success. More interesting options are available on the double-sided Chinese-language menu. On our visit the helpful staff gave a number of knowledgeable recommendations. In general, the quality of food this time was high. Steamed sea bass and 'golden sand' lobster appear to be signature dishes; we tried 'golden sand' king prawns and found them to be dry and overcooked, despite their crisp deep-fried shells and a generous mound of garlic chips. Dried oyster and pork patties combined smoky, meaty flavours with salty preserved vegetables and crisp water-chestnuts, while a dish of layered tofu, steamed egg white and seafood pieces was well-balanced and enjoyable.
