The queues may no longer run down Neal Street, but Food for Thought, open since 1974, still attracts a loyal crowd that comes here as much for the eccentric, sociable vibe as for the wholesome food.

The Covent Garden institution is less health-obsessed than some of the more puritanical veggie spots, with the emphasis on proper, unprocessed food in all its forms - from Moroccan chickpea tagine or stir-fried vegetables and rice, to indulgent desserts such as the infamous 'scrunch' (chunks of oat biscuit base mixed with fresh fruit and lashings of whipped cream).

Takeaway food is ordered from the small upstairs space; head to the basement if you want to eat in.

bland food and poorly presented. Also, no real room for eating-in comfortably. Very poor!!

I love the food here. Wish it was slightly bigger as it is almost impossible to get a seat.

The staff are just the most ignorant people I've come across in London. Customer Service is none-existent. The older bloke just kind of grunts and is not the least bit bothered about being even slightly helpful. I bought a takeaway but decided to throw it away after the bad vibe I got from the staff.

this place is beautiful - downstairs into basement, queue, order, grab a table or squeeze in on one, eat super tasty healthy good food, help yourself to water on the table. Not for lingering lunches, unless you do a late lunch and it's quietened down.

So yummy... The permanent queue speaks for it. One of the best vegetarian places in London. Not good if you want a calm environment to sit down for a meal, but if you want a quick, cheap and extremely tasty meal in Central London, it is unbeatable.

I have been coming here since I was a kid and haven't had any of the negative experiences outlined above.

Food is really tasty and reasonably priced and I love the layout of the place, it's poky but it's part of the charm. Maybe I'm biased but I'd say try it for yourself...don't be put off by the reviews. It's my fav veggie restaurant in London.

Very good veggie food - a bit crowded if you want to sit in, ideal for take aways. If you are doing a take away (which I always do) then one can ignore the otherwise not very friendly staff and concentrate of good vegan food - with lovely flavours

I went here with my friend and his wife who suffers from MS and has obvious physical problems. I explained when we were waiting to order (it was busy and we were happy to wait) that we would prefer to wait for a table that was suitable for us. The member of staff was dismissive and disinterested. The food was OK. The staff not. Avoid.

Good food but disturbingly they use styrofoam packaging that is non-biodegradable. When I questioned the owner about this, she was extremely discourteous and she didn't even attempt to take on board the feedback. One would think a place that is focussed on providing food that is healthy would also have an environmental conscience.
