It's the clamour of families ruddy-cheeked from a visit to Hackney City Farm that saves the large main space of the farm's high-ceilinged café from feeling a little cold. The outdoor area, buffered from Hackney Road by a container garden, is a more atmospheric spot.
Yes, Frizzante has a functionality-over-style vibe, but it also has a confident-sounding menu. Sadly, the cooking was found wanting on our most recent visit. An octopus and cuttlefish salad was clean-tasting, though the grilled polenta underneath was soggy, while a frittata was almost as chewy as the woodchip underfoot. Potato, leek and stilton soup may have been a mite autumnal for an August menu, but it hit an appropriately rustic note.
Breakfasts - meat or vegetarian options - looked to be better value than our choices. That sausage might repeat on you when you visit the pigsty, though.
