Golden Dragon's auspicious name, large façade and prominent location give it an advantage when it comes to attracting passing trade in busy Chinatown. Its reputation as a good-value destination for dim sum and other Cantonese fare was evidenced by the number of full round tables when we visited for a midweek lunch. The cooking is generally decent enough, although quality of ingredients often loses out in favour of keeping prices down. The large, spacious dining room is decorated in red and gold, with panels depicting Chinese ladies at leisure. The dim sum are generally more filling than refined. We found most meaty fillings bland, whether in steamed siu mai dumplings or beef cheung fun, while some pastry cases were overcooked and stodgy. In contrast, our har gau were full of bouncy prawns, and the taro croquettes were deep-fried perfectly to form a crisp lacy shell encasing a mushroom and pork filling. Dishes of quick-fried squid with straw mushrooms and sweetcorn, and chinese broccoli stir-fried with garlic and ginger, were generously portioned and fine. This isn't a place to be adventurous, but its classic Chinatown dishes rarely disappoint.

Beware... i sat down at this restaurant with 3 other friends who had a set menu £17:50 for each person even though the plater was the same size as if 2 had set menu, i had a plate of noodles £8 as was not hungry enough for set menu, at the end of the meal we were presented with an £78 bill, we had been charged 4x £17:50 plus my noodles. The staff did not take not for an answer and so we all paid £80....no change every arrived then we were asked to leave, when questioned about the bill again 2 men were called and basically threatened us to leave. Service 0/10 food 0/10 price 0/10. There were also people sitting in the lobby outside the main door who threw up all over the floor...this was cleaned up with toilet paper and they were not asked to leave...why??

A common Chinese restaurant, the food is quiet good there. Although service is not as good as some other restaurant. But "poor service" usually would be seen in Chinese restaurant. For the staffs works for quiet long hours. I am a Chinese so I can accept some "annoying part". If you cater for delicious Chinese food. It's a good place to go. Recommend Beef with Black Bean Source and Pepper as well as Seasoned Vegetables with Mushroom. Like them a lot! :)

Pleasant suprise not to be rushed out as we had heard that china town was not renowned for it's service. Had to wait about 10 minutes to be seated, not bad for a Saturday night. ordered banquet for two ,and bottle of wine. Food came quite quickly but after that we were not hassled or rushed and staff were attentive and polite. Lovely mea, would go back again.

My Wife and I had a pre-theatre on a Saturday evening. Looking at the biz in the place we thought 'this must be good'. The soup was almost cold and on conclusion of a much better main course the bill was thrust upon us. We politely said we weren't finished and asked for decaf coffee which they didn't have. We accepted normal coffee which was served in something no bigger than an egg cup. Overall somewhat dissappointing!

Visited Golden Dragon on the 19th with friends, the food was tasty and plenty of it. Service could not be faulted, the supervisor - Bobo was a pretty and charming delight and made our evening very special. I shall most definitely be visiting again!

My boyfriend and I ate here on Friday night it was about 8pm and the place was pretty busy already yet they still found a table for us immediately, within a short time all the tables were full so it's a popular place to eat. The manager (man) was friendly and funny and our waitress was brilliant, funny, patient and helpful and made lots of menu suggestions for us. Food was all lovely we had mixed hot hors d'ouevres, lobster and then sweet and sour with rice and noodles. The drinks were served promptly and with a smile. I had a fab time and will recommend it to everyone, we'll definitely go back.

We ate here at lunchtime, absolutely awful! Food was fine although nothing special but the service was so shockingly bad. When we asked the waiter for more hoi sin sauce he ignored us and we had to ask another waiter before finally being served. Not one member of staff seemed capable to crack a smile nor did they ask how our meal was as is usually part of their job. However the worst part of this rubbish experience was when we asked for the bill. We were given only a total which seemed to include a 15% service charge. As a customer we felt it was our right to determine what tip we left. We asked the waiter that he charge us for the food and we would then decide what tip we would leave and this is where it all went wrong!! They were so rude and the manager was defensive straight away, becoming increasingly aggressive and just plain nasty. She even had the cheek to ask us if we had received service and whether her staff should need to feed us?!! We refused to give in to her bullying tactics to make us pay the service charge which didn't go down well as she started shouting obscenities at us in front of everyone, screaming at us as we left that we were not welcome 'around here, or any restaurants here' and that we were disgusting people! We finally escaped but I can honestly say I have never had a worse experience in a so-called restaurant in my life. The manager would be better off in a job where she is working on her own away from the public, and she could do with some anger management classes. I would recommend everyone to avoid this place at all costs.

Went to The Golden Dragon about nine months ago. Saw the reviews and was nearly put off going again on Sunday 16th Jan 2011 by the amount of bad reviews. Glad we still went. Lovely atmosphere. Food excellent. Service polite. Bill correct with service charge advertised on menu. Will certainly go again in the future. Would recommend.

I ate in the golden dragon in china town with my boyfriend this evening. It was a complete rip off! We payed a total of 73.00 for two people. The bill arrived with just a total and no itemized details.the service was rude and rushed. The food was disgusting. No fresh meat and flavours were not to an acceptable standard. Overall I left feeling completely overcharged and unhappy. Do not go there!!!!!!! It's not hard to serve fresh tasty food!!

How interesting it is to read the previous reviews when I had exactly the same experience last night.
We were treated so badly. The waitress couldn't be bothered answering any of our questions and was too interested in other tables. She was rude and had a bad attitude saying things like "we don't have that" about something we hadn't asked for because she wasn't listening. When we asked if the bill included a service charge, we were basically interrogated by three members of staff before the manager came over and made the situation even more uncomfortable. We were happy to tip one of the male waiters (Barry) as he was polite and helpful, but the manager took our tip from his hands and said "use it for chips, chip lady, you not welcome in west end." I can confidently say this was THE WORST experience I have ever had eating out. The table next to us had the same issue as well. The manager was childish and would suit a job where she doesn't have to deal with the public.

We visited this restaurant on 25 September 2010 and while the food was reasonably good, the service (apart from managing to get the food on the table) was total rubbish. there is no excuse either you treat customers with respect or face no one giving you a tip or none visiting again. It does not cost to smile....

The worst and least polite service I have ever suffered anywhere in the world. And be warned and ready for an argument: they try to whack on a 15% service charge!

Absolutely awful.
