Five minutes north of Euston station, Drummond Street is an unexpected slice of the subcontinent, dotted with Indian sweet emporiums and well-stocked grocers' shops and restaurants, but with none of Brick Lane's touts or tourists. Though Chutney's tinted windows and plain exterior look less than promising, inside it's far more inviting: a cosy, convivial dining room painted in rich reds and ochres. The main draw is the all-vegetarian buffet, served every lunchtime and all day on Sunday: vats of saag aloo, delicately-spiced tofu curry and creamy lentil dahl jostle for space with own-made chutneys and chilli-spiked veg of every description, from chickpeas and red cabbage to gleaming baby aubergines. Save space for dessert; we recommend the sweetly sticky semolina pudding, fragrant with cinnamon and cardamom.

Used to eat here 20/25 yrs ago, hasn't changed much except for th prices but still great value, £6.95, lunch buffet with a mix of starters, salads, bread, rice, 5 mains, chutneys and pickles and lovely deserts. The food is not stunning but tasty and does the trick!

Had a Keralan Mix for starter - random (delicious!) mixed of fries treats and chutney - yum. Thali for main course was excellent - nice mix of curries (Spinach, lentil and aubergine) with bread and rice. Not too oily and full of taste. Indian wine seemed kind of pricey but was a total surprise: wine that actually goes with curry! Not sure about the other comment - our experience was laid back - food arrived in good time and they didn't hustle us out (even though we were the last ones there). Totally recommend.

Sorry, but this place is a complete let down. Not only was the food absolutely disappointing, the service was appalling. The waiters are rude and completely unenthusiastic. Our food was late, and worse, when I was paying, the rude waiter snatched the bill out of my hand and slammed it on the table in front me saying to me: This is our copy, not your receipt! All this simply because I had taken the bill in my hand and in the process crumpled it a little coz I did not want my friend (who I was treating) to see what the total was!! Terrible service, overpriced food, definitely never going back there again and most definitely not recommending it to anyone!
