A heart-warming mix of birthday celebrations and dates keeps Brula humming on Saturday nights - deservedly so, as this professionally run local is streets ahead of most neighbourhood restaurants. The interior is comfortable and undemanding rather than fashionable, with any excitement being contained in the modern French menu.
Sauté of king scallops with chilled pea panna cotta, radish, black pudding, chilli and mint dressing was almost too pretty to eat, while three glorious curried mussels, part of a starter of Cornish crab, cauliflower remoulade, pickled apple and coriander, made the dish the evening's star turn. Mains - roast lamb provençal with tapenade dressing, sautéed spinach and cherry tomatoes with peppers and anchovies; and asparagus and broad bean tart with truffle oil, red pepper coulis, courgette ribbons and hazelnuts - were good without being memorable. Similarly, desserts (chouquettes with almond ice-cream and chocolate sauce, and crème brûlée) looked a treat, but needed something to lift them above OK-for-the-price.
The drinks list has a great selection of house wines (by the glass, carafe and bottle), which includes some organic and 'natural' bottles. Service was charming and on the ball. We'd happily become regulars: Brula is a rare restaurant that understands the meaning of hospitality.

Why not? I gather, from your comments, you know nothing about food or the preparation of food. It probably costs Brula more to serve the goats cheese tart as it does to serve the Onglet which is a very cheap but tasty cut of meat known as 'skirt' in the UK.
Also, Why didn’t you tell the waiter that you wanted the lamb well done?
As for Brula, I don't live in the area and have only dined there once however, the experience was exceptional for the price charged.
