There's a homely, almost domestic feel to Spirited Palace, and it went some way towards alleviating the pokiness of the basement dining room into which we were ushered. There's no menu; you simply get what the waiter brings you, in our case a mixed vegan platter whipped up by the Rastafarian chef. Fortunately, all misgivings were dispelled by the delicious spread: marinated tofu, fresh vegetables in a creamy soya sauce and divine dumplings of curried potatoes and onions. The climax came in the shape of a pineapple crumble with soya ice-cream. The space could be improved, but we can forgive many things after such good food and the enjoyably unconventional way it arrived.

I really wanted to like this restaurant, however they sort of spoiled our meal. They took over 2 hours to bring us any food at all, despite being the only people there when we got there. We'd planned lunch at 2 and only got to eat at 4. Understandably as we got closer to dinner time my guests were all complaining about being hungry. They overcharged us, offering us a buffet option for 12GBP each which ended up being less food than their usual plate for 7GBP, my guests were all still hungry at the end of it. It was also complete chaos, we had no idea what was going on most of the time. So we left feeling pretty ripped off, not good.
