With shisha-smoking customers at its alfresco tables, and its North African lounge decor enhanced by a sprawl of Berber cushions, Tagine looks inviting, if a little oddly located, opposite the hulking Bedford pub. Our zaalouk starter, a compote of aubergine seasoned with cumin, lacked bite, and a lamb shank main was disappointing: meat that should have fallen off the bone had to be prised off with ungracious cutlery manoeuvres. Chicken tagine was more successful, its tender chunks of chicken sprinkled with green olives, and we'd have followed the meal with Moroccan mint tea if a large pot hadn't cost an eye-watering £8 - the high price claimed to counter the absence of alcohol sales or a corkage charge at this unlicensed restaurant.

Appalling meal last might here with my friends. The food was tasteless and vastly over priced. £10 for a plate of spinach for a main course, dreadful food for all concerned. Not flavour and astronomical pices for drinks especially mint tea. Nice atmosphere, but was very disappointed.
