We're long-time fans of this pub and dining room so were disappointed to find it wasn't up to its usual high standards on a recent visit. A procession of staff we encountered were tetchy and humourless, whereas the norm in our experience has always been easy-going friendliness and confident hospitality. They voiced concern over the number of groups taking lunch that Sunday, yet the dining room was no more or less busy than we've found it before. Indeed, they should be used to plenty of custom, for this has been easily the best restaurant in the area for some years, as well suited to date night as family gatherings, or beer and tapas after work.
Food from the showpiece open kitchen was generally fine, but also lacklustre. Chilli salt squid tasted good with its mango, onion and coriander salad, but the coating was soft and gluey, not crisp or crunchy. The yorkshires that came with the roasts were stone cold, and coffee crème brûlée with double chocolate chip cookie was over-rich.
However there was much enthusiasm for our plates of Loch Duart salmon with vine tomatoes, green beans and hollandaise, and roast saddle of lamb with pistachio stuffing and pea purée. Fortunately, the wine list and beer range still provide great fun for discerning drinkers.

We had a very good meal with excellent service at the Ealing Park Tavern. We had noticed on the menu that there was a discretionary service charge and it appeared on the till receipt. However, the credit card receipt showed a line for ‘gratuity’ but with only noughts against it. When I asked why it didn’t show the £6.38 that we had paid under ‘service charge’, we learned that the money did not go to the staff, but to the owners. There is no tronc system.
This seems to me decidedly greedy and possibly duplicitous. The words ‘service charge' would indicate that the money would go to the staff who had provided the service. The fact that the money goes to the owners is to my mind, wilfully misleading. ‘Owners’ charge would be more accurate.
Thus, if you have had good food and service and wish to reward the staff directly, do not pay the discretionary service charge but leave cash for the staff instead.
Greed should not be rewarded.
I have been going to The Ealing Park Tavern for quite sometime and have always enjoyed myself. This weekend was no different. The first thing that hit me was the apparent change in management and staff. Their was an aire of confidence and professionalism that I had never noticed before. I have to say I had an even bettter time this night than in the past. I Had dinner with a couple of friends and have to say the food was amazing! My lobster was possibly the best I've had in years and proved to be an excellent recommendation by the Manager. The service was second to none and impressed my friends to no end. The atmosphere was a bit subdued but i put that down to the lack of music in the dinning area. Given the quality of the food, the price we paid and the level of service I'll definetly be going back, and hopefully sooner than later. Good on you EPT, I'm proud to call you my local!!!
Absolutely awfull dining experience for the four of us. tue 29 mar,2011 Ran out of sea bass main course, ran out of salmon starter, Salad sent back as too salty , teacup dirty sent back. Had to settle for a pan fried haddock and chips as main course which although assured as substantial was very small tasteless portions. two starters, 4 mains one of which virtually a salad, two glass wine, 4 teas -£92 incl. serv. What a rip off. Never go there again
