Behind the smoked-glass windows of its green-tiled exterior, the Garrison is assuredly more restaurant than public house. Cat-swingers might be challenged, but diners on various configurations of seating looked happy enough on a spring lunchtime.
The bar - where sweeping chrome pipes dispensing draught Franziskaner and Staropramen graze on a bevelled, white-tiled front - stands next to the open kitchen, edged at one end by hanging baskets of fruit and vegetables.
From here, dishes such as lamb neck navarin, and asparagus, broad bean and pea risotto are ferried through clustered tables and affably quirky decor to an eager clientele. Both the menu and the wine list are extensive.
