The London flagship of this Parisian chain is a collection of individually designed rooms set into a corner of Harrods, yet in good weather the desirable tables are outside. From the low, brick-coloured velvet chairs of the mezzanine, you can catch glimpses of the street or look over the chandelier to the pastel greens and pinks of the shop counter, where all manner of boxes are stacked ready to hold take-home treats. Omelette with fine herb salad was a little overcooked, but the nice mix of leaves included chives and chervil. Ispahan, a lovely rose-flavoured combination of raspberries, cream and meringue, was on the dry side.

After a very bad experience in Laduree Covent Garden, I made a formal complaint and was asked to try Laduree Harrods where I was pleasantly surprised. The service was flawless and the afternoon tea was a treat. Thank you very much.
