Le Mignon is part of a little cluster of businesses among residential roads near Camden High Street. Small dimensions and faded furnishings give it the look of an unremarkable local restaurant, and an understated welcome and quiet atmosphere reinforced this impression. Sadly, the food cemented it. Fattoush was flavoursome, yet managed to be a little dry. Moutabal had an intense smokiness that rivalled the heavy tahini flavour of the houmous and the vinegariness of the makdous (preserved and stuffed baby aubergines) - in each case, they were a little overbearing to our taste. The pleasingly open-textured kafta khashkhash (minced lamb with parsley, garlic and spices, grilled on skewers) came with a 'tomato sauce' that seemed identical to the 'chef's sauce' which accompanied farrouge mishwi (charcoal grilled chicken). It was tasty, yet reminded us of tinned tomatoes. Fruity Chateau Kefraya 2004 Lebanese wine is a good bet at £18, and Almaza beer (also from Lebanon) made a fresh-tasting change from the norm. Altogether, though, the experience was rather flat, and we found ourselves casting eager glances across the road at the lively Crown & Goose.

Went last night for the first time and really enjoyed ourselves. Friends who had been before suggested 3 meze and one grill would be plenty between two people. And it was.

We particularly liked the Baba Ganoush and the chicken livers (which were in a delicious lemony sauce) but there is a great selection of hot and cold meze and between us we had 12 dishes and didn't leave a scrap.

The grilled meats were fine and although a little pricey, not at all bad when shared between between two. I don't think even they most greedy among us could have managed a main course each. We ordered everything to come at the same time which worked well.

We stuck to the house (Lebanese) wine and with meze, grilled meats, bread, wine, coffee and pastries paid about £22 per head.

The place was buzzing and the staff were friendly and efficient. Lovely atmosphere. We were told that Alaistair Campbell sometimes eats there. Luckily no sign of him last night. Perhaps he drew the short straw and went to the Crown & Goose? We were perfectly happy where we were. Will be back.

You're mad. I've taken friends and colleagues here again and again and we're always welcomed and fed delicious dishes. It is undoubtedly a bit shabby and faded but the Lebanese food is second to none - better than anything you'll find on the edgware road. To describe a flavour as overbearing suggests you're not the right person to review a middle eastern restaurant and should stick to the flabby chips in the pub opposite.

Time out! Are you kidding. It is the best Lebanese in London. Decor aint flashy, but if it's the food you care about, and great friendly welcoming service, then nothing beats it.
