Pre-war France meets Django Reinhart-style gypsy jazz at this original wine bar with live music. French bistro food is on the menu, frogs' legs, mussels in wine and cream, escargots, and daily specials. Drinks are taken seriously too: wines are available by the bottle from £13, while Kronenberg and Amstell are on tap. Regular nights include the free Gypsy Swing Jam on Tuesdays (swingers bring your own instrument). Sunday and Monday nights are often ticketed affairs, a recent highlight being the 1930s Soirée Fleur de Paris, with Edith Piaff sound-a-like Lo Polidoro.

Wonderful gypsy jazz music heard on Friday nigh, the amazing violin player Ben Holder - go and see him there while he's in London over the summer. A superb change from classical music and opera, in a great little place just off Battersea Square. Welcoming and efficient staff, good food - put this on your list of quirky, interesting places to go - it won't be my only visit.
