Very much a venue that aims equally for style and substance, this Gordon Ramsay-owned restaurant is all minimalist, contemporary chic. The space is light and bright, with pale wood furniture and flooring and a muted colour scheme. At the far end, a separate, white-tiled chef's table (known as the Butcher's Block) is walled off by etched glass. It overlooks the kitchen, where the steaks are cooked over coals, and a top-of-the-range salamander grill finishes the meat at 650°C.

As diners are seated, they're greeted by a waiter bearing a tray laden with hunks of raw beef swaddled in white linen, and a lengthy explanation of the five cuts, which range from 21-day-aged grain-fed Casterbridge to a '9th grade' wagyu ribeye for £85.

A smoky rump, cooked rare, was impressive: piping hot yet bloody enough to ooze all over the stylish wooden board on which it was presented. Sichuan pork ribs had a salty crust and delicate lemongrass scenting, but a starter of gazpacho bordered on bland.

Those who don't fancy shelling out for dessert (treacle tart with yoghurt sorbet, perhaps) are well catered for too, as everyone gets a substantial, complimentary oat and chocolate chip cookie.

Not amazing. For what it is very expensive. I've beem to AWT grill restaurant in Windsor and the quality of the food was far better. My husband had a sirloin steak as did another member of our party. The quality of my husband's steak was awful. He didn't eat it. When we complained the waiter implied that we didn't know what we were talking about. The service is very average and the food okay. Expected so much better. Best bit was the cookie!

We arrived 10 minites early for our 9 pm booking but were given a warm welcome and taken straight to our table. Nice atmosphere and

a generally good feel. Ordered a bottle of red wine (one of the less expensive but not the cheapest). We felt is was cold and reported

this to the staff. The wine waiter arrived and explained that all the wine is kept at 17 degrees and that was that.. We suggested is should

be room temperature to be told is was a warm day and thats why we imagined the wine was cold. I think if I was sitting in a room at 17 I

would ask someone to rurn the heating on! He offered to put it in warm water but we declined as we did not feel that would do it any

good and he actually agreed. It still didnt feel right though. My wifes steak was fine and cooked like mine, rare as requested. I had a rib

eye on the bone. It was small and tough and for £26 very poor value. I didn't feel I should complaina as I guessed I would be made to

feel like I dont know what I am talking about just like the attitude with the wine. We also had french fries at £4 (just like McDonalds only

less of them) and for a further £4 got 3 onion rings. How generous!

When we were asked at the end we did say dissapointed. The head waiter came, he was very gratious and offered to take the wine off

the bill because he did not wish us to pay when we felt we did not have a good experiance.

In summary, I now know the meaning if the term "a fool and his money are eassy parted". I expected it to be expensive but thought it

would be worth it. It wasn't. If you are loaded and have more money than you need then go there to make your own contribution to the

Ramsay empire.
