Neatly named for its location on the corner of Northchurch and Southgate Roads, this pub conversion has been overshadowed by two newer openings, the Duke of Wellington to the north and the Scolt Head to the east.
Still, it retains a band of loyal regulars, happy to take root for the evening in the expansive pub space or the plain but popular streetfront beer garden.
Inside, blackboard menus, an abundance of wood, a few decent ales and a large, separate dining area with an open kitchen all suggest an archetypal modern gastropub, but this place does it better than many. On tap you'll find a few real ales, and the decent wine menu has several options by the glass.

Tables outdoors ( 10, patio ), Babies and children admitted, Booking advisable ( Fri-Sun, restaurant )When the new owners took charge in mid 2010 (approx), they made a run down place absolutely brilliant. The staff are so friendly, the atmosphere is great and the food is outstanding. There's the choice of eating in the dining area or the bar area which really works, and the chefs are in full view which is a nice touch. I'm local to this pub and sometimes go elsewhere for a change, but honestly can't find a better one in the area. Spot on!!
We have visited the Northgate numerous times for both food and drink and would recommend it to anyone. Food, staff and service is fantastic and it is a lovely relaxed place to spend a few hours. It is by far the nicest pub in the area and well worth a visit. Would recommend the chefs slow roasted pork belly it is amazing.
This place is amazing now, been there a dozen times because the food is so good and nice relaxed atmosphere. We live over the road and consider ourselves very lucky to be able to pop over there for a quick bite. Don't know who the chef is but they want to hold onto him for dear life.
The Northgate has recently reopened under new management and is better than ever! The staff are really friendly, the food is fantastic and the wine list is perfect. This is a really friendly local pub, worth a trip across town for.
