Not much can be done to make the dining room of a modern conference hotel feel like a family-run Italian. Get lost on the way to the loos and you might end up facing a flip chart. But for clandestine dining you couldn't do better than this over-designed restaurant down the road from Euston Station. Tinkly lounge music sets the tone, lunch looks like a good deal, and staff are eager to please. From the selection of ever-so slightly doughy breads - glazed rolls, focaccia and knobbly grissini - the kitchen shows it's trying hard. Dishes don't always manage to pull together the components and deliver the expected earthiness. 'Wood-roasted beetroot' with goat's cheese was sliced petal-thin and lost under a heap of micro leaves. White polenta with wild garlic and mushrooms wasn't as bosky as we'd hoped. Grey mullet with black olive tapenade and chilli-ed green beans packed more punch. The appearance of a sunken-looking baked apple with pecorino, halved raspberries and toasted bread roll for dessert was a downer, yet things ended on a high with the petits fours accompanying impeccable espresso.

Facilities
Babies and children admitted, Booking essential, Separate rooms for parties ( seating 20-120 ), Disabled ( lift; toilet )The first course started out nicely enough with decent food and service. We enjoyed the goats cheese salad, vegetable broth, and smoked salmon starters. Then the dining room got busy and we lost service. My second starter, the risotto, was bland at best fulfilled on neither the promise of pumpkin or ginger flavoring as well as a general lack of sesoning. Instead of checking to see why I hadn't touched the dish, our waiter simply gave us time and didn't fire the main courses to the kitchen until another waiter noticed that we needed some help. A 30! Minute stretch occurred between courses which should be unheard. Especially when the main dish that should have taken longest was only a medium sirloin. The veal was overcooked and likely sat under the heat lamp for too long. While my lamb was cooked nicely, the mint sauce accompaniement was barely present which was a shame since it was really delightful. The sirloin and chips was simple and nice but something we certainly cold have concocted at home. The carmenere merlot blend we ordered to accompany was little more than a nicer table wine rather than anything special. Needless to say, we won't be returning.
Went to this restaurant for a team Christmas dinner with some colleagues (10 of us).
The food was very nice, especially as we had the £25 menu. The atmosphere however with non-existent.
Even though there was quite a few people in the restaurant, it was just really quiet and had a boring feel to it – although we did try to make the best of it.
I wouldn’t recommend this place for social affairs i.e. birthday/Christmas celebrations – nor would I recommend for a romantic meal.
To be honest, I can’t think of many occasions where this would be a suitable venue – maybe a boring working lunch?
Food was nice, but would not go back as it’s just a sterile room where food is eaten.
Number twelve restaurants
Number Twelve restaurant in London, just 5 minutes walk from Euston & kings cross, has great staff, a well designed and layed out restaurant, and is definitely is the best fine dining restaurant in London.
This is the third time I have dined here and I'll definitely be back again. The set menu is excellent value for money with a great range of dishes. Also, the service at the restaurant is second to none; they made every effort to accommodate us at our 40th anniversary. Chef Stuart created a bespoke 3-course menu just for us and it made the whole dinner mouth-watering tasty.
I had the Grilled Saudi prawns for started which is the best prawn dish I had for some years now. Followed by the fillet steak, which was cooked, to absolute perfection. My wife I would recommend the number twelve restaurants above any other restaurant in London.
I had fantastic time in this restaurant. My friend recommended number twelve restaurant about month ago and finally last week I have decided to dine there. It was very good choice. Service is great - all staff very attentive and polite, fantastic food , creative presentation and reasonable prices. What is best is wine list - in my opinion best in London. I will be dining there more often.
