The fun, bohemian character of Osteria dell'Arancio has recently become distinctly haute boho, attracting affluent Chelsea folk. A charming, knowledgeable new manager/maître d' runs the front of house, and the kitchen specialises in the food of Le Marche, Tuscany and Piedmont.
Head chef Pierluigi Sandonnini trained in Italy under Gualtiero Marchesi (considered the founder of modern Italian cuisine) and brings a new finesse to the food. There's also a fresh focus on wine, with several fine vintages available by the glass from oxygen-free dispensers, and regular wine tastings in the airy upper room.
Sadly, we found the new regime somewhat ragged round the edges. The bread, when it eventually came, seemed stale and when more was requested it was much the same. A starter of grilled squid with orange and fennel salad was rather light on both fennel and orange, although the squid was beautifully cooked. Sea bass with courgette ribbons (a main course) was under-seasoned. To cap it all, a cheeseboard that took ages to arrive consisted of a lacklustre assortment of little cubes of hard cheeses, with no blue, creamy or goat's cheese. As with all the maître d's wine recommendations, however, the accompanying sweet Recioto was a perfect match

Tables outdoors ( 12, terrace ), Babies and children welcome ( high chairs; nappy-changing facilities ), Booking advisable ( dinner ), Separate room for parties ( seats 35 ), Available for hire, Disabled ( toilet )I have been going to Osteria dell’ Arancio for the past two years and without a shadow of a doubt it is the best Italian restaurant in Chelsea, I normally do not write any review, but after the “no sense” review of Lucylimehouse I felt obliged to. I’m Italian and I know what a proper Italian food should taste like and that’s is why the Osteria is a proper Italian restaurant. Everything is homemade from the pasta to the bread and dessert too. The incredible wine list and the very friendly and attentive service top all up. For me is a 10 out of 10...unless you don’t like proper Italian food.
this is one of the worst italian restaurants I have ever eaten at. It cost us £90 for a very average meal. It is possible to eat amazingly in london for that amount of money. Absolutely terrible. This is the first restaurant I have ever felt motivated to review, and only because it was so awful on a price: what you get ratio. go to eight over eight across the road - a million times better.
