Local restaurants often have to do that bit more to hang on to customers, and Petek certainly works hard to please a mixed clientele: witness the list of cocktails, from a decent gin martini to a surprising chilli and pear margarita.
The menu offers the expected hot and cold meze and kebabs as well as less common dishes (mongol liver) and more outlandish combinations (salmon and pear). Sticking to the classics, we were delighted by a warmly spiced and big-flavoured adana (spicy mince kebab), which came with tomato sauce and a rich, delicious aubergine paste. The mackerel and prawns wasn't so successful - the dish showed a steady hand at the grill, but it was hard to see what the three skewered prawns added (surf and surf, perhaps?).
Both these main courses were generously sized; the large plates on which they were served were barely able to contain the accompanying salad, pitta strips and sun-dried tomatoes. Our friendly waitress was swift in her patrols of the restaurant's parallel rooms, the prettier of which adds a multitude of multicoloured hanging lamps to interior decor of historical photos and navy-blue tiles. In all, a relaxed and accommodating venue.

The service was super fast even if the place was rammed, got a table after five minutes after coming in off the street. The food was delicious and priceworthy. Very young, buzzy atmosphere in a bohemian, rustic setting. BRILLIANT!
