This classy restaurant, now part-owned by a shareholder of Awana, has been a beacon of Singaporean cooking for decades. Prices have crept steadily upwards recently, but higher bills haven't diminished Singapore Garden's popularity judging by the packed room on our arrival. You get to sit in a suave room with modern furnishings, and are looked after by friendly, well-drilled staff.
The long menu is neatly divided into Chinese and Singaporean dishes, which makes ordering straightforward. Pork satay, accompanied by a tasty peanut sauce, was enjoyable. This was followed by a wok-fried crispy oyster omelette, which transported us back to the humidity of South-east Asia. We couldn't resist asking for more pork scratchings to bolster a Hokkien hay mee soup (a prawn-based broth served with egg noodles, rice vermicelli, prawns and pork) - a favourite hawker's dish. For the final act, pulot hitam (black glutinous rice) paired with coconut milk was a reminder that this is one of the best Singaporean restaurants in town.

Babies and children admitted, Booking essential, Disabled ( toilet ), Takeaway service; delivery service ( within 1.5-mile radius )Food taste bland. Service is efficient, helpful and attentive. However the complete lack of smiling from the staff felt impersonal.
I visited the restaurant a couple of weeks ago, and was not impressed. The claypot of prawns and scallops was bland and tasteless and not served (and probably not cooked) in a claypot, but with a standard plate. At 15 pounds+ the plate, this is not acceptable. The staff was not warm nor welcoming. At the end, the bill was excessively large in regard of what we actually had. In retrospect, it would have been much wiser for us to have spent this money at Royal China Club on Baker street.
