Bugis Street was a Singapore tourist nightspot renowned for its parade of transsexual women. This hotel brasserie, with tourists the only diners on our visit, more closely resembles a Singaporean coffee shop, with gold ceiling fans, marble-topped tables, bird cages and muzak. The menu has a Chinese and Singaporean slant, but dishes weren't impressive: chicken satay, not chargrilled but pan-fried and then skewered, was poor; stir-fried king prawns with tamarind sauce were bland. Better was the seafood ho fun, featuring fresh seafood and reasonable flat rice noodles. Our sago dessert seemed to be made with brown rather than palm sugar, and the service was occasionally as inattentive as the kitchen. A less than overwhelming experience.
