Given its location amid Canary Wharf hotels and pretty views across the Royal Docks, this upmarket restaurant ought to be busy on a weekday afternoon when the likes of 'Grand Designs' is on at the ExCeL Centre nearby. So, we were surprised to discover there were no other diners. The friendly waitress told us the restaurant had been packed the previous night. Thin, soggy crab cakes may have been a result of the chef suffering the after-effects of his late night, but the meal improved a little with nicely presented saltfish and ackee and escovitch fish. Both dishes illustrate how complex good Caribbean cooking can be, however the former was let down by a meagre amount of saltfish, the latter by no evidence of a hot pepper, herb and spice marinade. Staples like jerk chicken, curry goat and oxtail are served with sides of steamed rice and dumpling, fried plantain and green banana. Wooden shutters and a beach mural evoke the Caribbean, though this time the food was found wanting.
