There's an undeniable air of slickness to Harrison's, with its black and white tiled floors, zinc bar and funky lighting. The place is owned by Sam Harrison (a protégé of Rick Stein), who also runs Sam's Brasserie & Bar in Chiswick; the two restaurants share a laid-back, friendly vibe, and both have professional service.

The menu isn't what you could call challenging, however, focusing on crowd-pleasing dishes that aren't likely to furrow the brow. A starter of chilli and garlic grilled squid, including tender tentacle tendrils and rocket, looked attractive but the portion seemed a bit meagre for £7.50. A nicely seared salmon burger with wasabi mayo was a fine example of the 'classics with a twist' genre in which Harrison's specialises - even if the bun was a touch bland. We couldn't fault the ultra-light gnocchi, although the accompanying grilled vegetables were uninspiring.

The varied wine list includes an admirable selection by the glass and 50cl carafe. Monday evening is BYO night, with no corkage charge.
