Fieldgate Street is famous around these parts for the presence of Tayyabs, an outlandishly busy Pakistani eaterie that always seems to have a queue of 20-plus people trailing out its front door. But it's not the only restaurant on this scruffy, interesting road. Parked rather unexpectedly in the middle of what is largely Asian terrain is the Maedah Grill, a roomy Turkish establishment. Compared to other restaurants of a similar bent in east and north-east London, this is a slick-looking place, all shiny furniture and ersatz-futuristic menu typography. Unfortunately, it is let down by the kitchen, which in our experience delivers pretty indifferent renditions of Turkish staples. The list of mains is split roughly down the middle between grills and pide; from the former list, our chicken beyti was generous though rather wan. Muska böregi also lacked verve. Redemption of sorts arrived with a beautifully creamy sütlaç, but only after an extended wait for one of the bustling yet not overly attentive waiters. Customers are a rich racial mix, with plenty of kids in evidence on our recent evening visit.

Babies and children welcome ( high chairs ), Booking essential ( Fri, Sat ), Separate rooms for parties ( seating 6-20 ), Disabled ( toilet ), Takeaway serviceThis has to be one of the best restaurant in London. Am shocked to see it only received 2*
We go here a lot and I think the food is very fresh and of a really high standard. The service is always excellent too. I recommend the vegetable kebabs.
I normally do not like turkish food (do to the lack of spice) but this place is amazing. Full of flavour and good quality meat. cooked to perfection. Some reviews seem to be about the wrong place. Going back on Sunday. Gonna try the 'lamb balls'.
I liked the restaurant, but whatever I ordered (i forget - they were lamb balls) was described as 'spicy', which it wasn't. It was bland. Too bad. I love turkish food. However, liked the restaurant well enough so will return and try something else
I completely disagree with the review. The food is a lot tastier than other Turkish restaurants I have eaten at. The service is always great too, the waiters are really friendly. One of my favourites!
Seriously!! How can this beautiful place get only 2*!!!! This is probably the best restaurent in the whole of east-london, with quick service, delicious food, and a calm wonderfull, alcohol free atmosphere.... Please people, go there and find out...Peace.
As a turk I think the review by timeout is perfectly appropriate. I have never tased such bland kebabs in any serious turkish restaurant bar those in central london, and the service is average at best. Certainly not an 'authentic' turkish experience. Nice decoration.
best restaurant in east London, very very nice food, very good service..nice people...worth it
I went here with a few family members and the food was awful. The lack of flavor was astonishing, I could never have imagined that you could make a kebab taste so tasteless. The service was patchy, as there was an immensely long wait between the starters arriving and the main course. Overall a very poor choice of restaurant.
I agree with the article writer, the food is way too bland and this has even been mentioned by friends of mine who are not partial to spices. Decor is nice, good mixed atmosphere but the food quality was poor.
I am so shocked to see this has only got 2 stars! this has to be my favourite place to eat in London, I absolutely adore it. I have been going there for about a year and a half and my meals have never been anything less than perfect. So fresh and tasty and all at a great price. Plus the staff keep up the Turkish tradition of being ultra friendly and helpful, I recommend this to anyone.
I was first brought to this restaurant by a friend and since taken other people who have always LOVED it. The service is great, I was even offered a complimentary tea whilst waiting for a pide to take away. I'm pretty floored by this review to be honest. I would give it 10/10
