Classy dining at the dodgier end of Kentish Town Road might sound incongruous, but the Mango Room sits comfortably in its locality. The atmosphere is created by the cheerful diners rather than any arresting decor. Instead of trying to whisk you to a distant clime, the furnishings encourage you to enjoy the view of Camden streetlife, while sipping a tropical cocktail and appreciating the muted reggae soundtrack. Service was efficient, if not effusive.

The menu consists of a soulful collection of Caribbean favourites - jerk chicken, rice and peas, and curried goat, all elegantly presented - alongside more unusual dishes such as barracuda and salmon carpaccio. Main courses are served in delicate portions, but there are plenty of starchy side dishes to bulk them out.

Salt cod fritters were delicious, flavourful and dense in their crispy batter shell; and a sunny plateful of bream with coconut and pepper sauce arrived perfectly cooked, to be mopped up with good roti bread. Nicely caramelised plantain and wonderfully tender roast honey and ginger duck completed a fine meal. Desserts (such as mango and banana crème brûlée) hold their own, but aren't as exciting. After lingering as long as possible, we left with a post-holiday glow.

I went to Mango rooms over the weekend and was truely shocked but the poor service. The waitresses took a long time to serve our drinks and served tables witht eh wrong orders and just shouted out for who ordered which drink....very unprofessional. The portions of food were very small given that it is £25 pounds for a three courses meal. Many of us chose the same main courses and so they lumped our rice and plantain in teh same bowl. the waitresses dropped a couple plates and knocked over wine glasses on our tables. Our late guests were told they were unable to recieve thier starters but still ahd to pay for the 3 courses. the late guests receivec thier food within 3 minutes (microwaved the curry goat). the curry goat was not fantastic (better off going to a takeaway shop). They also charge 12.5% service charge for thier awful service and to top it off we were told to a the beginning of the meal (7pm) that we had to be out by 9pm. It was upsetting given that I have been waiting to go to Mango Rooms for a very long time.

I went there when visiting London. We ordered the goat (tender), the fish with mango puree (the sauce was amazing & the fish had crispy skin though was a bit smaller than expected) and the jerk chicken (definitely the winner out of the three - delicious!!).
We ordered sides which were the plantain (incredible), vegetables (the dishes are mainly meat with any incl. vegies more of a garnish) and coconut rice (which isn't listed as a side but which they do as part of another dish & they allowed us to order as a side - ASK it's worth it).
We loved this place & would highly recommend it!

Incredible restaurant! I had the ackee with plaintain which was beautifully presented and the lamb which was so tender and richly flavoured. This is a perfect representation of West Indian food and I would definitely recommend the restaurant to friends and family. Staff were attentive and friendly, the atmosphere was chilled, the food came at a reasonable time and the music just set the tone at the right level. The only drawback was the entrance we went thorough was by the bar and the staff there didn't really point us in the right direction but as we turned the corner, the waiting staff immediately attended to our needs. Totally returning!

I went for a friend's birthday, being a strict diet for health reasons I had already resigned myself to the fact that I probably couldn't eat anything on the menu. I did have a word with the waitress about what my options might be, but she came back with no help, and the chef didn't sound like s/he would be very accommodating. Now having worked in the industry for years myself, I probably would have hated a customer like myself, and quietly accepted the fact that I would just fill up on cocktails. However in the almost three hours that we were there we managed only to get in two rounds. And both those times we had to seek out the staff to order drinks, in which we then had to remind them again after we had been waiting awhile for them to arrive. Service was absolutely appalling, I think everyone else enjoyed their food, (I spent £9 on rice and steamed veges... literally). And when it came to paying our bill we payed half our 12.5% added service charge, and we're questioned why we didn't pay the full amount!

I went to Mango Rooms for my birthday which happened to be a large group.
The food was gorgeous, can't fault them on a single thing in terms of their menu. Compliments to the chef as it was tasty and very well presented. Definitely recommend the seafood soup as a starter and curry goat for mains. This place would be a diamond, if it was not for their lack of people skills and late service.
They were adamant they wanted the table back at 7pm but this was obviously an empty threat as the waiting time for a 3 course meal was exceedingly lengthy on their part.
Ordering food was like a game of cat and mouse at first, as some of my guests were missing but a large majority of us were ready to order. Front of house clearly had a problem with this. The amount of time they made us wait was painful, especially as we were readily hungry when we arrived. They refused to take our order until we had a table of 12. Not much of difference when there’s already 10 people there. No one was apologetic and I almost resorted into eating my arm. Service in general on the night wasn’t fantastic as they came across a bit rude I felt.
The cherry on the cake was when they gave us the bill and charged us 12.5% service charge. Did not feel they deserved all of it so only paid half.
If you have time on your hands then this is a great spot for you. The food is worth the wait but poor people skills cast a downer on things. Wouldn't recommend big parties going here, as large crowds seem to stress staff out when a complication of late guests arises.
