Any Caribbean cooking worth its salt(fish) should have the effect of transporting you to a desert island, and Savannah Jerk manages the feat with ease. If you're looking for a huge plate of spicy comfort food containing ingredients such as green banana, boiled yam, dumpling and sweet potato, and dishes such as macaroni pie, rich flavoursome mutton curry served with rice and peas, or stewed chicken turned a dark, chocolatey brown from caramelised sugar, this is the place to head.

The short menu covers all the classics of everyday Caribbean cuisine: jerk chicken, oxtail, ackee and saltfish, stewed chicken, and Trinidad roti (a choice of meat, chicken and prawn curries with diced potatoes wrapped in soft flatbread). Drinks are authentic too; Guinness punch, Ting (fizzy grapefruit juice), ginger beer (great with jerk chicken) and the ubiquitous Red Stripe all feature alongside a long list of rums.

Despite the restaurant's spacious, smart dining room, this isn't fancy stuff, just Caribbean cooking that flavours hearty ingredients with hints of scotch bonnet, ginger and allspice, bringing a big smile to your face and a 'mmmm' to your heart.

This review is for any one that is unsure of whether they want to visit savannah jerk or not.
If you are looking for DELICIOUS west indian food, then this is the place !
If you are looking for a fancy meal or night out, i wouldn't recommend savannah jerk.
The setting is ok, with the bar being the best feature of the restaurant.
I personally think the place could do with a makeover although it is not terrible ,it is very homely to say the least.
The service isn't the best I have experienced(the staff are very friendlywhen they want to be), We had to ask to order our drinks and the bill (we could have been there for hours if we didn't ask) .
Another bad point would be the chit chatting from the kitchen which is based right next to the tables, It was not very professional to hear the staff talking and joking so loudly about their personal lives rather then to serve their customers.
Overall the food was probably the best west indian food i have tasted for a while (coming from a caribbean family).
If they were to sort out their service and give the restaurant a makeover it would be fantastic.
I will definitely be going back.
Do not let a bad review stop you from visiting this place as i nearly did, and ended up enjoying the food very much !

i came to savannah jerk with 11 of my friends on a saturday night,it was quite busy had to wait 30 mins for a drink and there was noone at the bar!!! we finally got sitted after a 40 minute wait, we had one menu to share between 12!! when the waitress finally came over to take our order she wasnt very helpful didnt no what food they had left in the kitchen!! alot of the food had run out so there was limited choice!! i had order oxtail but 10 mins after ordering got told there was none left!! which was disappointing. we had to go order our drinks up at the bar as no one came over to ask if we wanted any drinks, they had no mixers for the cocktails on the menu only had one cocktail avaliable!! i ended up ordering a coke which took 20 mins to get to my table!! when the food finally came out three of us out of the group had to wait 10 mins longer for our food to come out while the others were all eating!! the food was lovely and you got big portions its such a let down that the service was so poor and the staff are very rude, a smile and some manners go along way!!!!! i dont think i will go back here in a hurry!!!! 12/02/2011

Also disappointed after coming here for lunch. The place was empty but the waitress tried to sit us on a table for 4 which had already had 2 people dining!

She took ages to take our order, forgot our drinks, and was getting the other orders confused despite the relatively few customers.

The jerk chicken I ordered was nothing to write home about. The chicken itself was mostly bones looking at it.

The table next to us was a mess and didn't get cleared for 30 mins -at which point the waitress sprayed some kind of bleach cleaner all over it which stank.

Getting the bill also took an age. Don't think I'll be going back.

I came here with friends on a Saturday night after hearing good reviews of the place. Unfortunately what we experienced was so disappointing.

The service was "discreet" to the point of being non-existent; it took fifteen minutes at a not-very-busy time of the evening to have our orders taken and we had to wave for attention after about half an hour to the fact that we had not only finished but wished to pay. Our meals came out fast enough, however.

The food was unfortunately bland as well. I had the pineapple jerk chicken - a perfect blend of sweetness and spiciness, apparently - but was disappointed to find it somewhat dull and uninspiring. The chicken had clearly been cooking for a long time as it was dry under the sauce and tender to the point of being difficult to eat.

The chicken was served with plantain, a dumpling and - I think - yam. All were undercooked and lacking in much flavour.

I cannot remember exactly what friends ordered, but I didn't see empty plates, put it that way.

Again, highly, highly disappointing. I'm not sure I'll go again.
