Napulé's smudgy exterior may need a lick of paint, but it's the wood-burning pizza oven inside that counts. That's jumping ahead, though: first was antipasto misto, highlighted by oozing, garlicky bruschetta. Shame about the vegetables though: aubergines starved of olive oil lacked nuttiness; and charred potato slices were out of place.
Stick to pizza if you appreciate good dough. Our siciliana - own-made ricotta and aubergine with charred chewy crust, eaten to the beat of crazed Italian music - was a triumph, but the rubbery fra rosario (mozzarella, sun-dried tomatoes, roast potatoes, sausage, onion, capers) with its inexplicable lack of rosemary left us cold.
The all-Italian waiters recommended little cantucci biscuits dipped in plummy passito wine for pudding: a posh touch, but not as satisfying as the tiramisu.
