Branches of Hampstead's Hi Sushi bar have recently sprung up in Golders Green and North Finchley but this new Camden Lock spot - all dark wood and disco beats - is very different. The aim is a fusion of Japanese and Latin American themes, a concept first made popular by chef and worldwide restaurant phenomenon Nobu Matsuhisa. Nobu's influence is apparent here in the soft shell crab hand-roll and salmon 'carpaccio' topped with gingery, hot olive oil dressing. Both were good, but overall we were disappointed by the lack of fiery flavours or culinary ambition - the menu only gives a nod to Latin American ingredients. Razor clams with fresh mint salsa sounded good but was unavailable. Juicy miso-marinated ribs came very lightly drizzled with chocolate sauce - more like a mistake than a mole - though this was one of the better dishes. We also appreciated the expert cooking of the lovely rock shrimps in the 'signature dish' but the dressing was bland and boring. On the other hand, Japanese influences were limited on the cocktails menu - a good saketini and a green tea mojito - the rest was a collection of vividly flavoured concoctions great for a night out but not suited to the food. We asked for the sake list and instead were brought a jug of sake. The sight of six grown men shoehorn-ing themselves into sunken seating better suited to four bodes strangely well. This is a fun place. The music, from a roster of DJs, is great (if too loud for the time of our visit) and should London ever see sun again, the outdoor waterfront seating is an appealing destination.

We go here a lot in the summer. The fantastic cocktails and great location are let down by the service which is about the worst I've experienced. The too-cool-for-school waiting staff have a pretty big blind spot when it comes to the outside tables. Better to go to the bar yourself......

HORRIBLE quality of buffet food. Hot food tastes either like plastic or blend. Sushi were all made with poor quality ingredients, no choice other than salmon for sashimi. Really not worth your the £16.80 + 10% service charge. Cooks and waiters are all Chinese (I know that as I am a mixed Japanese /Chinese). Please for the love of God do not go there and disappoint yourself like I did with my girlfriend and eat something better, utter disappointment from tonights visit.

There is a place called Hi Sushi in Soho and if it's nothing to do with the chain reviewed by Time Out on this page (the pictures here are nothing like the slop they serve up in Soho), they should seriously consider finding a way of getting it's name changed.
The user-submitted reviews fit with the Soho Hi Sushi, which only serves salmon, crab stick and 1 eel dish in the 'Buffet' - which is a total joke - you are only allowed a limited amount of food & the selection is so poor.
The service is so slack, rude, abrupt and unhelpful; that alone would keep our group at bay, but add the food and you couldn't pay us to eat there.

I don't agree. I think, Buffet is a great deal and really tasty. Anyways I'm a salmon fan, so it perfectly suits me. :) And it includes a la carte as well! Oh and you have to try the cocktails!!!! They are amazing!! My favourite place in town! :)

The buffet is not worth the money for a janpanese food lover. Every ingredient in too cheap. Although they say the buffet includes clams n tuna sashimi but they only give 2slices per person!! N they are very tiny!! Not even enough as one portion!! The only unlimited Sashimi is salmon!! Then rest of the buffet is sushi with cheap ingredients!! Like cucumbers, crab sticks and salad!!
Don't advice anyone to visit there until they change the menu again!!
