This is the more casual offshoot of fancy Ristorante Semplice; while the ristorante's high-end food presentation is over-fussy, in our experience, this trattoria is too casual by far. On a warm summer night, we could barely get in the for 100 or so Italians at a function who were occupying the pavement and the staff's entire attention.
Diners were offered a standard Italian menu of unsurprising starters, a few own-made pastas and half a dozen main courses. Porchetta, which arrived with a pile of long-ago shredded lettuce, was indifferent at best; a tomato and mozzarella salad was poor for the £9.75 it turned out to cost (the waiter had been unable to price the specials for us).
Mains were better. A cod special came with only a (good) rocket and tomato salad, but the fish was fresh and perfectly cooked; ravioli was clearly recently made, though its large puddle of butter would not be to everyone's taste. The few waiters swung between rude and solicitous; the party seemed to be their priority.
The trattoria's decor is in the show-flat style of stripped wood floor and large lampshades, with much beige and brown; Ristorante Semplice's interior is embellished with waves of gold. Both offer a good selection of regional Italian wines at Mayfair prices.

Facilities
Tables outdoors ( 6, terrace ), Babies and children welcome ( high chairs ), Separate room for parties ( seats 25 ), Available for hireVery disappointing after I found this restaurant recommended on the Michelin guide. Last night I decided to invite my friend Giovanni to a Trattoria as it means local and kind of traditional rustic food. Well anyway, service quite poor, slow and confused. Starter was a carpaccio, nothing special, main course a tagliatelle with mushrooms ragout sounds good but it tasted like can food. Final touch a Tiramisu served on a cocktail glass in a Trattoria, can you imagine? Bill £130 for 3 people...sharing one starter and one dessert... Really aweful
Went for a Thursday lunch with some friends. The place was quite but maybe and I was a little warried. What seemed to be the manager, whilst warm and welcoming, split a quarter of the bottle of wine across the table. However as soon as the food arrived and I tasted the calamari all the fears rapidly disappeared. Swordfish was also very good. Set menu is exceoptionally good value. Will definately go back to try the dishes from A la Carte menu. By the time we left the place was packed and I now know why.... the food is excellent!
Food is good but overpriced. Being a trattoria I would have expected a bill of 60pounds for what I Ate not 86pounds. I won't go back definitely.
This was the second time we visited this restaurant in a very short time. My wife and I found that the food was excellent, presented to an extremely high standard and full of flavor. It was obvious that the ingredients were really fresh and the menu clearly stood apart from other Italian places in the area. The general experience was impressive, however the service could do with a little 'tidy up'. Excellent value for money. We will definitely be back!!!
The serice at Semplice is AWFUL. The food is ok - but overpriced for what it is.
