Spacious and light, Luca's is a popular meeting place for parents after the school drop-off, ladies who lunch, and East Dulwich's large home-working population.

You'll find light savoury snacks - soup, salads, eggs benedict/florentine/royale/scrambled, a passable croque monsieur - and the counter heaped with buns and pastries is difficult to ignore. Austrian influences predominate, with glistening fruit tarts, a hearty baked cheesecake, a spicy carrot cake, fat cinnamon buns, and, of course, black forest gateau. There's also a wide selection of freshly baked breads, from crusty bloomers and sourdough loaves to heavy dark rye, making for some super sarnies.

We found the coffee a little flavourless, but enjoyed the range of very English juices and cordials.

I might as well have gone to costa cafe which for a person that hates restaurant chains mean a great deal: this place completely lacks of atmosphere and the food doesn't even rate any star despite the high prices

Luca's has dreadful service. The staff are aloof or out of their depth and no one seems to be managing the place. I've just come back from a dreadful lunch where it took 45 minutes to actualy get the food we ordered. 3 people were asked about progress on the order and not once did anyone come back with an answer. I would advise potential customers to give it a miss. Smug, arrogant and out of touch staff.
