The food here is pretty standard, but the setting is outstanding. Weeping willows drape over the waterside terrace, while a varied clientele of tourists, joggers and Londoners enjoy views across the Serpentine. Patrick Gwynne's sweeping architectural roof and angular glass walls contrast playfully with the English country-cottage interiors.
Hot and cold food is available all day: takeaway sandwiches, cake or ice-cream for a picnic in the park; or visit the restaurant for wood-fired pizzas, salads, dry-aged steak and seasonal fish. A vintage piano accompanies Sunday brunch. Our fish finger sandwich was in fact upmarket goujons in a granary bun, and pea risotto was crowned with lotus root crisps. Hire a rowing boat after lunch if you've eaten too many cakes for dessert.
