Located towards the Putney end of the Fulham Road, Sukho is a tranquil, airy place where the simple decor (dark wood tables dotted with potted green plants) is enlivened by a huge carved wooden panel on one wall. Service was reassuringly attentive.
The extensive menu offers classic dishes as well as some intriguing surprises, with an emphasis on seafood. A starter of 'seared' scallops with young lemongrass and lime juice was exquisite, although the (albeit perfectly cooked) scallops were in no way seared; the curly parsley garnish, however, was slightly jarring.
A main course of delicious crisp-fried confit of duck leg with lemongrass and tamarind arrived amid a splendid array of leaves and carved vegetables on a decorative platter, together with a large empty white plate. We then had to transfer the food to the plate, resulting in ungainly scraping to get all the lovely sauce. Top marks for the perfectly cooked fragrant rice.
A Chilean viognier from the lengthy wine list suited the food nicely, but a pot of fresh mint tea was rather flavourless.
