Tas's lengthy menus do more than most to emphasise that Anatolian cuisine is one of the richest and most varied in the world. Almost 40 starters are offered at this cheerfully busy eaterie near the British Museum - from a soup of mussels, celery, coriander and ginger, to deep-fried salmon with sour rose sauce - making diners feel almost guilty ordering houmous, dolma or börek, regardless of how delicious they are. Kalamar were coated in feather-light batter, though the squid was not perfectly tender or improved by its pasty bitter walnut sauce. Pırasalı, a vegetarian main course of lentils, chickpeas, leeks and tomato, was reminiscent of the bland store-cupboard stews you might knock up in a bedsit, even with its red couscous and yoghurt accompaniments. However, chicken sis and simple feta cheese salad were much more satisfying; we also liked the delicious dips, piquant olives and seeded breads. There's an extensive array of fish and rice dishes, pasta and casseroles in addition to the expected grills, making Tas a good choice for parties of friends and colleagues - all will find something they're happy to order, and staff are adept at dealing with groups.

We visited Tas on Borough High Street last Friday on recommendation from our London Walks guide. The food was superb and the service excellent! One of the best meals we've had for a long time! Had Börek and Pacanga as a starter, Soganli Dana Kavurma and Kagit Kebap as a main and Chocolate Cake and Kaymakli Kestane as dessert. Huge menu, nice wines and a lovely atmosphere. There even was a guitar player playing in the background which was very pleasant - not too loud, you could still have a normal conversation. We will surely be back to try more off the menu and will definately recommend Tas to our friends.

The food was ok, very samey from dish to dish. Lots of tomatoes, onion and parsley in the starters and tomato sauce on the mains. We quite enjoyed the food, we were hungry but we wouldn't ever go back to this restaurant because of the miserable, unfriendly staff. We had to ask for drinks whilst we perused the menu, there was no assistance with the menu and communication with the staff was minimul.

Tourists beware. My brother in law visited London in January and recommended this place for my visit. I ate there last night and thought the food was delicious, staff was great. However, service had automatically been added to the bill, and then the manager came to the table to swipe our credit card and added it again--without saying a word. Assuming, perhaps, from our American accents that we wouldn't notice? When we brought it up he apologized way too fast and without even looking at the bill to verify that he'd made a mistake. Shady.

We visited Tas restaurant near Waterloo yesterday. The staff were not very friendly or attentive. We were very disappointed with the food. The 2 main courses : Kul Basti and Papaz Yahnisi were very bland and tasteless. The Papaz Yahnisi was swimming in a dish of oil which was supposedly being passed off as gravy. It looked very unappetising and unhealthy. I am disgusted to see this restaurant being recommended in Time Out London and Insight City Guide. I would never eat there again nor would I recommend it to anyone. It was not worth the price and they didn't deserve the service charge they deducted.
