Set in the tangle of unpromising streets behind King's Cross, the Driver is a stylish gastropub, with a 'vertical garden' and a decked roof terrace, complemented by three more floors of dining and drinking space, above a street-level bar and restaurant of equally interesting design.
There you can sip a San Miguel, Blue Moon or St Austell Tribute beneath a reindeer head in the loungey area by the fireplace or at the bar, itself hewn out of a jagged tree trunk.
The tables are for diners (seared kangaroo rump, grilled skate wing), while drinkers can partake of cocktails such as the house mojito with a dash of Frangelico. Wines start at £4.40/£15 and run up to a Château Haut-Bages Averoux at £70.

Booking an area in the downstairs bar made little difference as we had to wait for it to be cleared and then fight our way through a crowded floor of patrons only to then be surrounded on all sides by elbows, bums and bags. Ordering a drink was near on impossible with inexperienced bar staff with a poor attitude and bad customer service. The Bar food was slow to arrived and lobbed onto our table along with some napkins thrown in with a carefree attitude. This place has a long way to go before its anywhere near being a place I would frequent again.
We ate at the driver on Saturday night on a Groupon Deal. The staff were very friendly and attentive and the food was excellent. I would recommend this venue for its food and its ambience.
