With beaten-down sofas and mismatched chairs and tables, 'shabby chic' is a term that was made for the Antelope. Hunting trophies mounted on the walls, heavy wood panelling, period fireplaces and heritage paints all combine to create the feel of a stately home, yet there's nothing dusty about this place. With ambient tunes and a laid-back clientele, it's retro cool with a modern twist.

The pub is huge, with three large, high-ceilinged rooms and a beer garden. There's a big screen for watching sports, a pool table, stacks of board games, and high chairs too, suiting the full range of customers.

The menu is far from shabby; changing daily, it's a roll-call of well-thought-out, well-crafted dishes. Pan-fried squid with pangritata was cooked to perfection, whipped off the heat the second it was done. A beef burger (not the typical pub staple) excelled, arriving with sweet confit onions and a fresh tomato relish. To finish: a warm brownie and fior di latte ice-cream. In short, the Antelope is a must for lovers of great grub in an informal setting.

The Antelope is our local and we pop in often for a drink after work and on Sundays we often enjoy a good roast. Atmosphere is always warm and welcoming, and service is always friendly and attentive. Food is good but could come out a little faster and warmer. I agree with previous reviews that this place can feel like a creche on the weekends, which is a downside for people who don't have and want to avoid kids, but a plus for young families. Children should probably only be allowed in one section of the pub. would love if they had nice wine glasses too.

overall a lovely place to go with a great selection of drinks and a great atmosphere.

I really like this place, I do, and I've been going fairly regularly for a year or so now, but lately I feel it's becoming a victim of its own success. It used to be a really nice place to go for a Sunday roast, and particularly so because they used to do some really innovative veggie options on Sundays. Now every week it seems to be the dreaded nut roast, and it's really putting me off going. It's a shame that standards seem to have slipped in this respect, as you can get nut roast anywhere, and The Antelope used to offer really nice alternatives.

Also, the place is really like a creche at weekends, which can be a bit off-putting. It's knee-deep in babies and buggies, which doesn't make for a very relaxing lunch.

A year or two ago I would have given a much more positive review. I really hope this can be turned around because it can be (and has been) a really nice place to go.

(Oh yeah; they need to sort out their reservations line and email system too actually. They lost our booking two weeks in a row.)

|'m so impressed that this place has dragged itself up off its arse to give the good people of Tooting somewhere good to drink, eat and be merry...... I remember when this used to be the "Foresters Arms" where all you could get in the way of entertainment was an Irish Country and Western Combo, and the food ran to packets of Big D Nuts and pavement pizzas..........

i went in tonight with a friend (Halloween) for the very first time after pasting it a million times, the woman serving on the bar ignored us didnt even look at us, instead she kept herself busy behind the bar with putting glasses away and even serving other people, very bad service

A friend chose this pub to celebrate her birthday today (Sunday) and I am happy to report that Sunday roasts are back on the menu. Ours was a party of 15 and we tried pretty much everything: roast chicken thighs, lamb, pork belly (with crispy crackling) and even nut roast. Great tasting, generously portioned food. Loved the mismatched china and mugs, and individual (mismatched) milk jugs. Surprisingly large pub at the back. Good atmosphere with just-loud-enough jazz playing on the background.

Great pub, massive inside with a nice, quirky retro style interior, excellent ales and top restaurant quality food. They are not doing Sunday roasts during the summer though - I asked. They will be back from September apparently.
