This beautifully appointed pâtisserie-chocolatier and café showcases an array of delectable specialities, including truffles sharpened with Japanese vinegar, shiny-glazed mousses, tea-infused sponges, ices and artisan chocolates.

There's a bespoke dessert bar at weekends, where you might sink a spoon into lavender panna cotta or classic savarin.

The pâtisserie and chocolates are hard to fault for their creativity, but dishes from the café's brunch menu weren't as memorable (despite being priced at the sharp end). Scotch pancakes were dense and cloying, saved only by lashings of creamy chocolate sauce. Equally disappointing, french toast, rendered soggy by too much sugar syrup, didn't do itself any favours.

Curley's speciality work is to- class, but the café menu needs more attention.
