This venerable riverside pub has had a quietly turbulent time recently, thanks to a couple of ownership changes. However, it seems to be settling down again, not that anyone's in any great hurry for it to change.

The main selling point is the location: set on a particularly rural bend of the Thames, it's in a peach of a spot, and the views over the river are wonderfully bucolic. But if the weather rules against sitting outside, the interior's far from ugly, wearing its 300-year history with ease.

Unsurprisingly, the offerings from both bar (decent ales) and kitchen (pub grub) don't divert much from tradition, but that's just the way the locals and the occasional interloping tourists like it.

What a little gem, best Mussels I've tasted for ages and local Ales, best riverside location for a small pub I've ever seen - don't miss it!

Food is awful and the attitude of barstaff match the quality of the food. Really disappointed as I work locally and have visited the pub on many previous occasions - however it now appears to have new ownership/management and I won't be going back!
