A special treat in the form of espresso brewed from San Francisco-based Bluebottle Company beans is a change from the usual. It's slightly oily in mouthfeel, quite viscous and tart on the palate, with intense dark chocolate and citrus rind flavours. A little while later, a distinctive smoky tobacco aftertaste clung to our throats, not necessarily in a bad way. We would have liked its flat white to have had equal verve - it didn't discern itself much from a regular latte, lacking slightly in body. We give barista Ross extra points for bringing out the deliciously addictive butterscotch and hazelnut flavours in the blend.

Best coffee in the south. Great food. Lovely staff. Great Gin and Tonic. 3 stars is just wrong, Time Out!

Can't believe you guys gave Browns a stingy 3 stars - it's by far the best cafe in Brockley. Their coffee is out of this world and Ross and the other guys are some of the friendliest people you could meet. Plus the interior is understated and chic, and the food is lovely. A hidden gem.

Pretty much a completely unhelpful review! went along to the cafe myself the other week, the staff were so friendly and welcoming chatting with you. The coffee was gorgeous and my boyfriend said the hot chocolate was so good that he ended up having more than one. Had a blue cheese, pear and rocket sandwhich on walnut bread, practically heaven it was amazing toasted. They do loads of bagels on a saturday which they buy fresh from brick lane and prepare themselves. Theres also some gorgeous pastries and cakes. Our new favourite place, been recommending it to everyone. cindy

whats the point in reviewing the taste of the coffee only - surely the café itself should be reviewed - things like ambience, service - and food as well thanks! ben
