Despite a queue that spills out on to the pavement, this tiny cake shop and tea salon oozes serenity. Exposed brickwork combined with pristine white walls offers a blank canvas for the pretty pâtisserie and desserts. Some are traditional, others have a Japanese twist, such as the green tea bread and butter pudding. The assiette of desserts is the best way to sample as many of these exquisite creations as possible, and is a great showcase for the talents of chef-patron Masayuki Hara. Of the selection - all accompanied with own-made vanilla ice-cream - the standouts were a delicious miniature chocolate sponge roll and a delightful rhubarb mousse tarte. The mostly Japanese staff are friendly and unobtrusive, and will happily advise on the tea menu, which lists an extensive selection of exclusive infusions from the Euphorium Tea Salon in Sri Lanka. All loose tea is Ceylon based and served in stylish glass teapots. Monmouth coffee is also on offer.

As an Oriental myself, I massively enjoyed Lanka (the new branch that is opened on Goldhurst Terrance). If you like matcha flavour (as most of the Chinese, Japanese and Korean do), you will enjoy greentea tart which has a very authentic taste of matcha but yet not too strong. Also white chocolate with aduki bean gateau is actually a perfect combination. In Asia we always combine matcha flavour pattesaries with aduki bean and it is so creative for them to use aduki bean on white chocolate cake.

I would strongly recommend this bakery!

Time Out's review of this place is bland. Perhaps things have changed, but the coffee is great - a perfect Flat-White came my way, and tasted great.

The BEST thing about this cafe is the rather odd for London celebration of children and dogs. Last time I went two kids were rolling on the floor and my dog was being petted and photographed and added to their blog!

I love this place, love their attitude, love it.

I don't write reviews ever, however I feel compelled to. I have been to Lanka twice on my last two visits to London and will come again the next time i'm in London. Not only are the cakes and pastries delicious but they're also light and delicate, not overly sweet unlike other London bakeries. The rum baba is wonderful and the green tea tart is exceptional as well. Chef Haka came to ask how the food was and it ended with him showing where I was going wrong with my macarons, allowing me to see his method and write down the recipe, he is very warm and welcoming and I am thrilled that he will be opening another store.

We were recommended to this place by a friend. Boy, were we not disappointed. The place is small but lucky there were 2 places inside. There was a lunch menu but they do have all day breakfast available on the weekend. We tried the Salmon and cheese omelette. The food was great. The chef come out ocassionally to check on the customers and even came to us to check if the bread was too hard. After our main course, we still had room to try the green tea chocolate cake. It was the perfect way to end our meal at Lanka. Will definitely be back!

The food is overpriced and the cakes are nothing special - across the road is better. The coffee is ok though.

Lanka's cakes are amazing, such imagination and taste. I wish I could eat them everyday, I usually go twice a week. The service is excellent, Miwako (one of the few staff members) was very helpful and guided us through the unique creations. The shop is small, but that adds to the cozy feel.
