Malletti's an anomaly in this list, not because it's primarily a takeaway, but because it's a pizza al taglio joint.
Pizza al taglio is the Roman take on the dish. Instead of being served in huge round pies, the thin pizza base is baked on metal trays and cut into paired squares, then quickly reheated to order, perfect for on-the-hoof munching.
At lunchtimes there's a constant queue of local office workers out the door, and no one seems to mind the wait for what is Soho's best slice of pizza, at a mere £3.95.
Our two squares of margherita had a thin, firm base with just the right degree of crispness, plus a mouthwatering tomato topping and aromatic dried, mixed herbs pepping up the existing basil and mozzarella.
There are plenty of surprising toppings too, such as potato with herbs, spinach and artichoke hearts, or a salami with fresh chili which oozes tasty oil.
You can eat in - there's a long counter along one side, facing the queue, but there are no stools. There's a larger branch in Clerkenwell, though it lacks the vibe of the Soho original.

Best pizza al taglio I had in London so far and reasonable price! Regarding the 'cultural issue' below.. I come from Northern Italy and we do have pizza al taglio pretty everywhere, although it is true that it is originally from Rome.
I'm not sure why a fella speaking on his mobile phone whilst ordering feels he has can then complain about common courtesy! Seems a bit of a daft statement to me. Besides, this is part of the fun of the place, they even have a sign up stating you won't be served if you're on the phone! Great place, great food, friendly people working there.
Dear Paola, your cultural correction is indeed wrong. 'Pizza al taglio' is thicker than a regular pizza and it is only available in Rome. In other parts of Italy they have something called a 'trancio', which is just a slice of a normal pizza.
I would correct Paola. "Pizza al taglio" is quite Roman and pretty different from what you can find elsewhere in Italy. It's thicker than a normal Pizza and it is usually not cooked in a wood oven.
It's really hard to find Pizza al taglio in other towns, while in Rome you can easily find three or four shops in a single cross
This place is a bit of a ripoff. They pack all slices in wax paper, and when you unwrap them, the cheese sticks to the wrapping and comes off. This has happened to me on several occasions. Pizza without cheese is not particularly tasty, and two thin slices of bread and tomato sauce are not worth four quid.
Just a little "cultural" correction on this article: "pizza al taglio" lit. "cut pizza" is simply a street food version of the pizza you normally order in a Trattoria, Pizzeria or Ristorante, and it is typical of the whole country, it bears NO specific relation at all with Rome or things Roman.
Very nice Pizza indeed, but such unpleasant service. They can literally throw you out after 20 min of queueing up because you answer your phone while ordering. Their good pizza is not worth it their temper, probably too many people queueing every day making them forgot the basics of clients courtesy.
