Walking into Cantina Laredo, with its bright decor, thumping soundtrack and friendly greeters, you could be in any US mall. Complimentary tortilla chips arrive at the table virtually as you do, along with two complex and tasty salsas - one warm, and filled with low notes, another chilled and spicy.
Sadly, flavours diminish from here. Oaxaca quesadillas con hongos, a 'signature dish' of toasted flour tortillas filled with melted cheese and mushrooms, were bland.
Another 'special' of pork tamales topped with a chipotle-wine sauce, and served with sides of rice and 'sautéed vegetables' (sweetcorn, courgette and carrot with cumin), continued the dull, heavy theme.
The chain claims to specialise in seafood, but prawn fajitas, served with flour tortillas, guacamole, sour cream, a ton of fried onion and six measly prawns, seemed outrageously priced at nearly £18.
Cocktails are a highlight; a virgin apple mojito made a refreshing, light accompaniment to the heavy food.
If Starbucks-style predictability appeals, Laredo might be your kind of Mexican: the chillies aren't too hot, the flavours aren't too challenging, and the service is attentive and efficient.
If, however, you like a bit of tang in your taco, you'll leave this US chain disappointed.

I can't agree with the Negative views expressed as we had a great time! The free totilla chips went down well with everyone and our steak and chicken Fajitas were spot on - our two children 7 and 9 ate everything and had never been to a proper Mexican before. The service was attentive without being obtrusive, it was lively without being too noisy and had a chilled Vibe. The two Magauritas I had were absolutely yummy. Decor was subtle and modern. All in all I can not fault this restaurant, they found us a table when we didn't have reservations on a busy Friday evening and nothing was too much trouble. Along with the Theatre trip this was one of the highlights of our stay in London.
Visited with wife and kid. Food pretty good; not overly spicy. Portions sizes reasonable, not US size. Guacamole starter excellent. Service was efficient and friendly. We arrived early so did not need to wait, but busy later.
I agree with the timeout review. The overall experience I had was bland and dull. Considering the price, there are far better restaurants you could be eating in.
Reviews of this place on the web left me concerned that it may not be good enough for our 21st anniversary. Our experince was very different. We were welcomed and offered a drink in the bar, shown promptly to our table and throughout, service was noticably good. Our server Katrina smiley such a nice person with good knowledge. She offered us a great wine.Whilst I have had better food, I have not had better very often, and not at this price. Some courses, especially dessert,(I am not a dessert lover) were exceptional.Buzzy and fun atmosphere.
Delightful service and atmosphere, smiley waitors in a soft lit environment. Quite expensive but totally worth!
Our party of four all thought it was good food, good service (attentive without being intrusive) + great cocktails at the bar (although these turned out to be expensive with the additional 12.5% service charge at the bar which we were not expecting). The no reservation policy puts us off and stops us giving it a higher rating.
