Looking for an alternative to Camden's hyper-trendy/touristy alternative scene? Believe it or not, you'll find it inside the imposing 1930s hall of the English Folk Dance & Song Society, just across the tracks in Primrose Hill.

Below the main performance halls lies a suitably retro-styled interior, where pastel-coloured tablecloths with polka dots provide a stage for vintage cake stands (the cakes are freshly baked throughout the day). While dance students burn off calories in the adjacent rehearsal rooms, you can munch on daily-changing delights, the kind of fresh, healthy and tasty food Jamie Oliver was trying to get his school dinner ladies to cook.

A hearty tomato and bean soup was heaving with chunky vegetables, and a zesty tabouleh came with a refreshing yoghurt and cucumber relish. For more substantial grub, try the organic pork sausages or lamb pie.

Loved it! Homemade scones and even homemade strawberry & blueberry jam...not likely to find that for £1 anywhere else in London.

I can't understand how this place got 4 stars?

Dreadful.
