Isola Bella

Transplanted from Hendon in 2011, this large dairy restaurant covers various cuisines. The owners have trimmed the original menu of 300 dishes to a more manageable choice. Sit at a dark, shiny table and start with breakfast (Mexican, Tunisian) or maybe all-day sandwiches or salads. There are pastas and pizzas too, plus 'soup casseroles', fish and a large vegetarian section. Portions are large.

A plate of Thai vegetables (here called 'sida loui fay') was enough for three, coming with cashews for crunch. Fish is a forte: teriyaki salmon delivered moist flakes of fish in a rich marinade, with creamy mash. Less successful was the tuna burger - enough enjoyable chips for two, but uninspiring content inside the bun.

If you choose salad niçoise, you may have room for dessert: fried banana and pineapple, or the exotic football (deep-fried battered ice-cream with chocolate cream and maple syrup). Or perhaps you'd prefer cheesecake, or one of 17 combinations of whipped cream layered with meringue and sweet glossy mousses? The pinnacle of these must be the Himalaya: coconut, white chocolate and caramel mousse, tiramisu, meringue, praline and milk chocolate ganache. There's a new branch at the Westfield mall in Shepherd's Bush.
