At Harrods' art deco-inspired ice-cream parlour, chandeliers of inverted sundae glasses sprinkle coloured light on to an undulating marble counter, while customers swivel on sorbet-coloured bar stools, peering over their towering knickerbocker glories.
The epic menu includes the classic sundaes you'd expect, as well as an unusual deconstructed gelato platter and gelato served in spaghetti shapes. For a retro treat, try an ice-cream float with your favourite fizzy drink.
Our banana split was good, but the vanilla gelato was too plain. Banana and dulce de leche gelato, although refined, also lacked intensity of flavour. Better was the wild berry gelato - rich and fresh, with swirls of fruit.
Service was lax, but very polite once we'd got the staff's attention. Pay a visit after wandering Harrods' sparkling shopping halls, although the venue's sense of occasion and setting is perhaps a better selling point than the gelato itself.
