A local tearoom with London-wide appeal, High Tea of Highgate sets itself apart from other local spots by virtue of its nostalgic charm. Crockery and cute kitchen knick-knacks are for sale and waitresses bustle around with pots of tea and healthy portions of British bakes. There's no set afternoon tea menu, but you can piece together your own (apart from the sandwiches) with scones, chocolate buttercream sponge, lemon drizzle or lavender cake among those on the menu. It's a classic, simple and, dare we say it, slightly boring selection. Still, everything is own-made and together with a pot of loose leaf tea, there are worse ways to while away an afternoon.

LOVELY AMBIENCE, FREINDLY STAFF, HOWEVER ON EVERY OCCASSION, BY ABOUT 4PM THEY HAVE SOLD OUT OF SCONES - WHICH IS REDICULOUS SEEING AS THIS IS HYPED AS 'HIGH TEA.' ITS HAPPENED 3 TIMES NOW! AND WHEN I MENTION IT, THEY NEVER ACKNOWLEDGE IT'S A PROBLEM. DONT THINK MUCH OF THE HOME MADE CAKES, TOO SWEET, AND NOT INTERESTING, BUT FOR THE ATMOSPHERE, ITS WORTH GOING.

the place is nice and desserts and teas are delicious.
I was let down because they say they're "children friendly" but they don't have high chair, the staff are not very helpful if you have a baby and the place is often packed and it's so hard to get in with a pram
