Kooky and craftsy, this dinky tea-room is a welcome refuge from Streatham's insalubrious main road. Owner Lydia Wood-Power is skilled in floristry, jewellery design and baking, and has jammed more than a few of her favourite things into her girly, vintage-themed café. Every wall is decked out with pink fabric bunting, there are own-made trinkets for sale, and you can even rent out sewing-machines by the hour.

The food is equally off-beat, with an interesting selection of own-made sandwiches, salads and cakes. Our pastrami, Emmental and pickle came wedged between two toasted slices of moreish sourdough bread; other artisanal breads and loaves are also are on offer.

The good selection of teas, from apple and chamomile to the eponymous earl grey, are served in colourful pots. Lighting is a little 'interrogation lamp setting', but the only real chink in the armour on our visit was the desperately slow and occasionally scatty service.

Can't believe anyone was rude at this, our favourite local cafe. As regulars we know we'll get a warm welcome, superb sandwiches, salads and quiche and the best coffee and cupcakes in Streatham. Always friendly even when our toddler is trashing the place!

Very sorry you think someone has been rude to you
And I would be really interested to know when
It was, I can only think it could possibly have been
Over the weekend when we were so busy that we
Might have just been concentrating very hard
We are normally very cheerful ask all our regulars

Best gourmet sandwiches around, great lattes and cosy friendly vibe.

Delicious food, gorgeous atmosphere, and excellent staff! We definitely did not see scatty or slow staff when we were there, despite the numerous customers in the cafe, and complex orders we requested. Brilliant - highly recommend x

Just spent a lovely couple of hours here drinking coffee and making the impossible decision of which cupcake to choose! What a lovely place, wonderful atmosphere (no doubt due to the lovely owner Lydia) and so many lovely things to look at. Will most definitely be back to sample the lunch menu soon (which will be another impossible decision - so many yummy choices) - Loved it... so worth a visit.

Forgot to include my star rating but think it's probably obvious from my comments!

I adore this place! It is probably the best addition to Streatham Hill in years and that is in area which has improved vastly (I moved here in 1999). I try to call in for lunch once a week as the salads are more than generous - they are vast and delicious. It has a really friendly atmosphere and Linda has always been welcoming.
Excellent coffee and a fantastic selection of cakes - this woman knows how to bake!
Don't recognise the slow and scatty service - and I come here a lot - so it must have been an off day. What I do appreciate is that all the sandwiches and salads are prepared to order and with a great deal of care.

A nice addition to Streatham. My only gripe is that it needs to make more fairy cakes instead of letting these grey squirrel cup cakes take over!

I'm completely addicted to this gem of a cafe. Rarely do I walk by without succumbing to the tantalising display of cakes that flaunt their colours by the window. Recent favourites have included vanilla cupcakes with a cheeky bit of jam nestling at the centre and rose and lime cake with chunky pistachio generously sprinkled on top. The coffee is similarly delicious - rich and flavoursome - and I'm fussy about coffee! Service is fast and efficient, always with a smile and a warm welcome on arrival. Definitely a place to visit if you live nearby, and if not, worth the journey for that special weekend treat!

I absolutely LOVE this place! with all the vintage decor and delicious cupcakes. Not to mention the friendly and exceptional service! I would recomend Earl Grey & Rose to anyone living or even passing through Streatham Hill.

I think this is an unfair review. Early Grey & Rose is a great little neighbourhood cafe and a wonderful addition to Streatham Hill. There's an amazing array of freshly baked homemade cakes every day and it's open seven days a week. I think the slow service must have been a one off or a particularly busy day as it's always been friendly and quick when I've been there. I'd encourage anyone from Streatham and surrounding areas to come and see for themselves.

Lovely little shop. Love the sewing machine concept. Had lunch with my friends. Good sandwiches but let down by miserable lady working there and she got our orders wrong! Disappointing.
